Another blast of snow takes aim at Alberta. Will winter make up for lost time?

Winter weather has lacked for the most part across the Prairies this year, but Arctic air and snowy conditions will now attempt to make up for lost time in Alberta. That will replace the recent spring-like weather, with rounds of snow and colder-than-seasonal temperatures lasting into early next week.

You'd have to go back to November for some of the snowiest days of the season so far, with Edmonton airport only reporting one other day with more than 10 cm of snow in January.

Could Thursday be the third time for a decent swath of snow this season? The forecast is a tricky one, but one that you'll want to plan ahead for. Beware of slick roads and potential travel delays as the mid-week system moves through.

Wednesday through Friday: Snow develops across central Alberta, and highway travel likely to be impact

A low-pressure system will develop in Alberta on Thursday, bringing snow to the foothills and central Alberta from Wednesday night through early Friday morning.

Snow will start quite light in Alberta's Elbow region Wednesday morning, with the intensity picking up Wednesday evening as it moves towards Edmonton.

As the main low develops on Thursday morning, the swath of heaviest snow will align from northwest of Calgary through to Cold Lake -- putting Edmonton on the northern edge of the heaviest snow, and also making for a very tricky forecast.

The QE2 will see snow through the day on Thursday, from Red Deer to Edmonton, with difficult travel expected for much of the day.

Currently, around 15 cm of snow is possible for Edmonton, with 5-10 cm for Red Deer, and closer to 3 cm for Calgary, which will fall through the latter half of the day. The ultimate track of the system could alter overall amounts, especially if the band of snow on Thursday pushes south and east of Edmonton. That would lower totals for the region, while also increasing amounts for Red Deer and Lloydminster.

The greatest snowfall amounts with this system will be northeast of Edmonton, and towards Cold Lake, before the snow eases through Friday morning.

Snow totals majorly lacking this winter

Alberta as a whole did not see much snow this winter. Edmonton airport saw just over 80 per cent of normal snowfall for the season. So far, the snowiest month was back in November when 24.9 cm fell in the Edmonton area. The snowiest day so far this snow season was 12.8 cm on November 23, 2024, with the second being 10.6 cm from January 30, 2025.

Calgary has seen even less snow, with just 26 cm reported from December to February. In November alone, 40 cm fell in Calgary!

March is Calgary's snowiest month on average, though it'll be hard to beat out that impressive November total at this point. March is typically the second snowiest month of the season at the Edmonton airport, just behind the month of January.

Travis Kelce has grown up, says Jason Kelce
Travis Kelce is "changing" because of new people in his life. The 35-sports star has been dating singer Taylor Swift since 2023, and Jason Kelce, Travis' older brother, has been staggered by his sibling's personal evolution. Speaking about his brother's growth, Jason said on the 'Fitz and Whit' podcast: "It’s been staggering, honestly." The 37-year-old star recalled Travis having a Peter Pan-like quality during his younger years. Jason said: "One of the things I love so much about Travis is that he never grew up. He was like Peter Pan, the lost boys." Jason acknowledged that the new people in Travis' life have had a healthy influence on him in recent times. The former NFL star said: "I think that sometimes you get people in your life that maybe get that out of you. That’s a good thing." Despite this, Travis has retained a playful side to his personality. Jason explained: "Trav, he is growing up. He’s still got that youthful enthusiasm. I think he’ll kind of always have that. It’s just part of his personality." Meanwhile, Travis recently admitted to feeling inspired by Taylor during her Eras Tour. The Kansas City Chiefs star admitted to taking inspiration from Taylor, 35, and her record-breaking tour. Speaking ahead of the Super Bowl, Travis explained: "What I saw on that tour last year was pretty remarkable. "To see the week-in, week-out travelling from one country to the next and how excruciating it is on her body and on her mind - and it’s not just her. It was her entire tour. It was an absolute machine and it was something I could admire watching." Travis also revealed that he was focusing on his diet ahead of the Super Bowl. He said: "I’ve been eating clean. I haven’t been drinking as much, a little lower on the pounds this week."

Gal Gadot blames social media for making the world 'very confusing'
Gal Gadot thinks social media has made the world feel "very confusing". The 39-year-old actress' four daughters - Alma, 13, Maya, eight, Daniella, three, and Ori, 12 months - are all growing up in a social media-obsessed society, and Gal believes the ever-increasing reliance on platforms like Instagram and TikTok is actually unhealthy for young women. The Hollywood star - who has been married to businessman Jaron Varsano since 2008 - told DuJour magazine: "I always tell my kids that for me, growing up was so much easier than it is for you. "They grew up with all these filters. With curated postings. They think it’s real, not knowing that it’s been totally filtered and retouched. "I tell them, ‘Whatever you see out there, it’s false, not true.’ It’s a very confusing world for a girl." Gal's family home was "very, very quiet" during her own childhood. But the actress has joked that her home life is now "mayhem". She explained: "I wanted to have a messy home with mayhem and all that." Gal actually relishes the noise and energy created by her children. The actress said: "If you come to my house, they laugh, they fight, they cry. It’s a whole range of emotions, and I love it. Yes, it’s a lot. I juggle. I do my best and we have help and my husband does the best job as a dad. I don’t sleep a lot." Gal previously admitted that it's not easy to balance her acting career with her family life. The 'Wonder Woman' star told Glamour magazine in 2020: "You have to balance between having a career and having a family. It's something that is always a handful and my career takes a lot."

Justin Theroux and Nicole Brydon Bloom detail lively wedding weekend celebrations
Justin Theroux and Nicole Brydon Bloom's wedding celebrations featured stilt walkers, a bonfire on the beach and "mermaid" swimming. The couple - who got engaged ast summer after two years of dating - tied the knot over the weekend at the Hotel Esencia in Xpu Há, Mexico, where they had previously enjoyed a weekend away, and wanted their guests to enjoy a "taste of [their] dream weekend in the Mayan Riviera paradise". The guests spent Thursday (13.03.25) night on the beach with a bonfire, before the couple held their rehearsal dinner the following evening. Those celebratios began with cocktails on the roof terrace before toasts from friends and family by the pool. Nicole told Vogue magazine: “Many tears were shed and we were overwhelmed with gratitude for the people who have made such a huge impact on our lives, both as individuals and as a couple." They then enjoyed more drinks, using local vendors and entertainers, and "got the party started". The 30-year-old actress noted: “Our band for the night, The Cubanismos, really got the party started. As did the stilt walkers!” The wedding ceremony took place at 5pm on Saturday (15.03.25), but the weather meant a slight change of plans with the venue. Nicole - who wore a custom gown by her friend Victoria Beckham - explained: “We had initially wanted to get married down by the water, but when we woke up on Saturday morning, the wind was incredibly strong and sand was whipping around. We pulled the ceremony back into a tucked away cove. The ocean was still visible but we were protected under a canopy of palm trees.” The 'Paradise' star's sister sang 'Moon River' as she walked down the aisle. Nicole said: “It was so moving to hear her beautiful voice wafting over the soft waves as my step-father Dan McNulty and I made our way through all our family and friends toward Justin at the end of the aisle." The pair have opted to keep the contents of their wedding vows private. Justin said: “All I’ll say is, it was wonderful. Ceremonies with vows are about the words contained within them. And they are better left un-described here. That being said, the officiant said some wonderful things, and my wife was just… well, incredibly touching. I was very moved.” Nicole added: "I kept saying I felt so at peace and so loved all weekend. "Our officiant and my brother-in-law, Patrick McQuade, had us take a moment at the top of our ceremony to face our guests and really soak in the moment. I was overwhelmed with gratitude, love, and joy. "To see so many faces smiling back at me from so many different walks of life and generations felt incredibly grounding and magical. Looking into Justin’s kind, hazel eyes during the ceremony made me feel very safe and loved.” After saying I do, the 53-year-old actor and his new wife took 10 minutes to themselves before kicking off their celebrations. Nicole said: “It was the greatest little reset before rejoining our favorite people for cocktail hour on the lawn." Eliot Sumner opened the reception with two songs before speeches came from Nicole's stepfather and her two sisters, who were joint maids of honour. Nicole said: “All three speeches moved me to tears. Justin’s best men were fantastic and had all our guests belly laughing by the end of their toasts.” A mariachi band played while the couple headed to the floor for their first dance to 'I've Told Every Little Star' by Linda Scott. Justin said: “A first dance and an homage to David Lynch." Nicole added: "We danced for three hours straight with all our guests beneath a canopy of disco balls. My 93-year-old grandma, Laura Bloom, was the life of the party.” The guests who celebrated until the end found themselves inside a little speakeasy within the hotel. Nicole said: “It was rowdy with great music—and Patrick, our officiant, just kept yelling ‘This is the best night of my life!’ "A few mermaids ended up swimming in the pool above. It was the perfect celebratory way to end a fabulous weekend!”

Olivia Munn pays heartwarming tribute to late agent Tony Etz
Olivia Munn is heartbroken after the death of her literary agent Tony Etz. The 'Newsroom' star has paid tribute to her agent, who died on Monday (10.03.25) aged 64 after battling Chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer. She wrote on her Instagram Story: "This makes me incredibly sad. This is my literary agent who passed away from cancer yesterday; but that's not how he deserves to be remembered. "He should be remembered as one of the good guys in our business. They didn't get better and kinder than Tony. "Rest in love, my friend. My thoughts are with his sweet family." In a second post, Olivia - who previously battled breast cancer - simply added: "We all love you, Tony. F*** CANCER." Tony spent three decades at the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), with his career seeing him represent several directors, actors, producers and writers, while he was also involved in shows like 'Grey's Anatomy', 'House' and 'Jackass'. Almost two years ago, he requested to write his own obituary, and summed up his career in two lines. As quoted by Deadline, he said: "Over 30 years as a packaging agent, I was foundational in the sale of 'Jackass', 'House', 'Lost', 'Rescue Me', 'Big Little Lies', 'Jury Duty' and 'Tracker' and dozens of other shows. “And I have been a proud citizen of the best city state in the business.” He married fellow TV agent Nancy Etz in 1999 during her time at ICM, and she would join him at CAA seven years later, while they went onto have son Alex together. In a tribute, Peter Tolan - who co-created 'Rescue Me' and 'The Job' - hailed him as "deeply mourned" and "irreplaceable". He added: "He defended those of us who were fortunate enough to be his clients with a ferocity most of our own mothers would be unable to duplicate.” While longtime client Paul Attanasio said: "He had the sensitivity to understand what was unique to me (which I would constantly doubt) but then the breadth of vision to understand how that fit in the larger world (which I didn’t understand at all). "That was the secret ingredient in whatever I was able to accomplish in television. I couldn’t have done it without him.”

Charlie Sheen's daughter Sami 'bullied' for looking like her dad
Charlie Sheen's daughter Sami Sheen was bullied for looking like her famous father. Sami, 20, has admitted the cruel taunts about her appearance from her school mates convinced her she needed to get a nose job and she's also had to deal with comparisons to her actress mother Denise Richards. Speaking to her mom in an episode of family reality show 'Denise Richards and Her Wild Things', Sami explained: "I had to deal with kids bullying me. "People would say I looked like my dad. I actually got a comment the other day of someone saying, ‘You’ll never be as pretty as your mom'." The episode showed Denise driving her daughter to a consultation with a doctor about her planned rhinoplasty prior to the surgery in August and Sami told her mother she had wanted the operation "for as long as [I] can remember", adding: "I have this freaking honker stuck to my face". Sami also pointed to her mom's face as the example of a "perfect" nose as she explained her hope for the surgery to the doctor. Later in the episode, Denise - who is mom to Sami as well as 19-year-old Lola with her ex-husband Charlie- became tearful as she talked about her daughter's desire to go under the knife. She said: "For my daughter to want to get her nose done, it made me so sad. I feel bad that she has to live up to my nose, or whatever, because I don’t want [my daughters] to feel they have to look a certain way ... "There were times I wanted to move the kids out of LA, and I couldn’t because of where I worked. And they had two parents in this business. I feel bad." However, in a confessional, Sami wondered if she would even be considering cosmetic surgery if she wasn't living the celebrity lifestyle in Los Angeles. She said: "I'm really trying to think if we lived in, like, Alabama and I worked a normal job and I wasn't on social media. I probably would still want a nose job."

Jack Whitehall teases 'really big night' at the BRITs
Jack Whitehall is planning "a really big night" for his BRITs return. The 36-year-old comedian is set to host the awards show for the fifth time in his career on March 1, and Jack is thrilled that he has another chance to host the annual event. Speaking to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column, Jack explained: "The last show I did was in 2021, which had a fair few restrictions due to COVID. "So it always felt like, due to circumstances beyond my control, I’d maybe gone out with a little bit of a whimper. "I think the Brits 2025 is going to make up for that and be a really big night. "When I first started out I was just like ‘Jack, don’t mess this up. This is such a big opportunity’. You don’t want to say the wrong thing and insult someone and then get taken off air. Then I got to a point where I was like, ‘It’s probably best now to not outstay my welcome’. And now, here I am, back again." Jack previously admitted that he can't wait to return to the role of host, describing the BRITs as his "favourite night of the year". The stand-up comedy star said: "They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and that is absolutely the case with the BRIT Awards. It is my favourite night of the year." Jack hasn't been available to host the show in recent years due to his jam-packed work schedule. But he's now available and he's thrilled to be hosting the event once again. An insider previously told The Sun newspaper: "Jack is such a brilliant BRITs host and isn’t afraid to take the p*** out of some of the world’s biggest stars. "He has such a hectic diary that he’s been unable to take part for the past few years. But he was available this time and said yes immediately. It is one of his favourite gigs as he can have some real fun with the celebs."
