More Canadian CEOs say their business may not be viable in a decade, according to PwC’s latest global survey of top executives.

The responses also suggest Canadian companies lag foreign rivals on artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, product innovation, and investments to fight climate change.

PwC says it surveyed 4,701 chief executives across 105 countries and territories between Oct. 1, 2024 through November 8, 2024. The “Big Four” global accounting firm says in Canada, it collected responses from 167 CEOs.

Most of the results were collected prior to U.S. President Donald Trump securing a second term in office on Nov. 5. PwC Canada CEO Nicolas Marcoux says they reflect a mix of optimism about the economy, and unease about Canada-U.S. trade.

“Despite the uncertainty around potential economic measures that could come into effect with the new U.S. administration, Canadian CEOs remain remarkably resilient and are preparing to take on the challenges ahead," he stated in a news release.

Canadian CEOs were more optimistic about economic growth than they were last year. PwC found 55 per cent expect an improvement, up from 31 per cent in the prior survey.

On top of mounting trade challenges, PwC says Canadian CEOs are under pressure to address “megatrends” like technological disruption from AI, demographic shifts, and climate change. This year, macroeconomic volatility was the most identified threat. Geopolitical conflict and concerns about skilled labour availability were also top themes, according to PwC.

“In fact, 35 per cent of Canadian CEOs think their businesses might not be viable in 10 years, up from 32 per cent and 24 per cent, respectively, in our two previous surveys,” Marcoux and PwC clients and markets national managing partner Nochane Rousseau wrote in the report.

“While many of the almost 170 Canadian chief executive officers who took part in our survey are taking some of the steps needed to adapt to these trends, the results also point to some notable differences from their global counterparts,” they wrote.

Among the Canadian CEOs who responded, 79 per cent reported plans to adopt generative AI to any degree in the next 12 months, lagging their global counterparts at 87 per cent. Sixty-three per cent reported development of an innovative product or service in the last five years, versus 72 per cent globally. Seventy-two per cent reported initiating a climate-related investment in the past 12 months, versus 81 per cent globally.

Slightly more Canadian CEOs than global respondents say they expect to make at least one acquisition in the next three years, at 58 per cent versus 54 per cent.

Tracy Morgan taken out of New York Knicks game in wheelchair
Tracy Morgan was taken out of a New York Knicks game in a wheelchair after appearing to fall ill during the game. The 56-year-old comic was sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden on Monday (17.03.25) when, according to photos and footage circulating online, he began vomiting onto the floor. He was then taken out of the arena in a wheelchair holding what appeared to be a red-stained white towel to his face, with one poster on X sharing that he had a nose bleed. The spectator posted alongside a photo: "Tracy Morgan getting wheeled out from courtside at MSG .. bleeding from nose .. could barely stand up … hope he’s ok (sic)" The game - which saw the Knicks beat Miami Heat 116-95 - was delayed for around 10 minutes in the third quarter due to the former '30 Rock' actor's medical incident. A spokesperson for the star has yet to comment on what happened or offer an update on his condition. A Madison Square Garden representative told People magazine: "We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside." This isn't the first time Tracy - who has diabetes and underwent a kidney transplant in 2010 - has experienced public medical issues. In 2012, he collapsed outside a building at the Sundance Film Festival, with his representative saying it was due to a combination of exhaustion and altitude. Tracy - who returned to work a few days later - posted on social media afterwards: “Superman ran into a little kryptonite. The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn." And in 2014, he broke his leg and was in a coma for two weeks, later relearning how to walk and talk, after the limo he was riding in was hit from behind by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. Tragically, his friend, fellow passenger James McNair, was killed in the accident. Truck driver Kevin Roper - who hadn't slept for 28 hours when he crashed - later accepted a plea deal to complete 300 hours of community service in order to avoid trial. The former 'Saturday Night Live' star previously expressed his forgiveness towards the driver. He told People magazine on the 10th anniversary of the crash last year: “I want to say to everyone who was in the van with me that night I love you, and we miss you, Uncle Jimmy Mac and God bless your family. "And to the driver that night and his family, me and my comrades forgive you."

Millie Bobby Brown plans to 'shave her hair off' again for major life event
Millie Bobby Brown wants to "shave her hair off" when she has her first baby. The 21-year-old actress - who is getting married to Jon Bon Jovi's son Jake Bongiovi - is keen to raise a family in the future, and she'd love to go back to her 'Stranger Things' look by getting rid of her locks in time for giving birth. She told the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast: "I always tell Jake, for my first baby, I want to shave my hair off. "I don’t know. It was really liberating, would suggest it for anyone. Any girl... Maybe [I would shave it] right before I’m about to give birth because I just think hair is such an ordeal anyway to deal with. "I’m gonna nurture my child. Why deal with my hair? And I think it’s such a liberating experience. "To be a woman is, and I felt like I had that experience as a girl, but I’d like to have that experience as a woman." Millie was just 12 years old when she was cast as Eleven in 'Stranger Things', but she had absolutely no qualms about shaving her head before filming the hit Netflix show. She recalled: "I honestly did not care and I’m saying that like I really did not care. I didn’t have anxiety, I wasn’t sad when they shaved it off. "I just thought, 'Cool. Now this is what I’m doing.' I think it started to hit me months and months in where you get to that age where you’re 11 now and you’re shaving it consecutively every three days because it cannot grow past a certain length because we’re filming, so continuity-wise you’re shaving it, so every time it started to grow and I’d get excited, we’d shave it again." She started to feel "insecure" once she and her friends were getting to the age where boys were getting interested in other girls. She added: "So, I think it became to the point where I was like 12, 11 or 12, where I was like, the boys started liking girls and I was kind of like maybe, 'Why are boys not liking me?' "And then I was like, 'I’m feeling insecure now,' so I would put wigs on and I did get really, really bullied. "In public, people would make comments and stuff but honestly, I still to this day loved the experience and I would do it again."
